the nazis, one of whom was in the Maori Battalion. I myself was also a
member of the New Zealand Army which sustained more casualties per
capita fighting the nazis of any nation, with the possible exception
of Russia..
What's more, politically I am a leftist and a vocal supporter of
Barack Obama (despite the fact that I live in New Zealand)...also,
because I have some Maori ancestry I would have been unnacceptable to
nazi ideology.

Why did the original Nazis chose to use symbols from a
religion that was shattered out of organized existance a
thousand years ago? Because those symbols still held
cultural significance. The swastika has been a symbol of
dynamic power in northern Europe since the bronze age.
It was used as a lightning strike symbol to mean the
Blitzkrieg and it was on the uniforms of US Army soldiers
in some divisions before the war. Oh right, that means
the US Army is corrupt, too, right? Because the Nazis
took their symbol and all.
The runes were known as ancient power symbols. Note
that in the 1920s and 1930s there was a movement of
folks following the Aesir that was active in Germany and
Austria "WanderVogel" - beatnik-like. They made the
ancient symbols current then were moved to the
concentration camps in the early phases. So there were
ancient symbols that were known but not protected by any
powerful group, a modern movement among the youth that
had little power. The reasons the original Nazis adopted
our symbols is clear in the context of that era.
Also note that many of the original Nazis were Christians
but it was a time when Christianity held more power than it
does now. The Nazis used little Christian symbolism for the
same reason the Italian Fascists didn't. The history of the
Nazis corrupting the Christian churches is every bit as
damning as the way they corrputed our ancient symbols.
Yet I don't see trolls and religious bigots going after the
Christians over this topic.
Why do neo-Nazis use the symbols of the original Nazis?
Because they want to tap into that part of their corrupted
meanings. Most are Identity Christians even so it rarely
has anything to do with Asatru. Funny how Christianity in
general isn't tarred the same way Asatru is, yet another
sign of the religious bigotry of the trolls and their dishonesty.
Identity Christians are the bad apple that spoils the enire
Christian barrel if neo-Nazis are the bad apple that spoils
the entire Asatru barrel.
Some Asatru folks avoid all of the symbols corrupted by
the Nazis. Some only avoid the swastika. Some make the
mistake of not avoiding the swastika but use it in its
original pre-corrupted meaning. Over the years I've seen
runic jewelry in costume jewelry stores so clearly the
corruption has faded for the Sigil and Tiwaz runes. Some
day the memory of the swastika will be a matter of old
history but I certainly do not expect to live to see that day.
The existance of neo-Nazis using it ensures that day won't
happen in my lifetime.
For centuries Buddhists have used the swastika to mark
the locations of their temples on maps. In addition to the
lightning strike it also symbolizes the cycle of birth and
rebirth. They never stopped usign the symbol just because
some group of bozo European war mongers also used it.
Good on the Buddhists for that I say. But I also say let
them stick to it for a another few generations as the
corrupt meaning fades. The symbol was there for millenia
before the Nazis corrupted it and it will still be their for
millenia after that history fades. But I now live in a time
it hasn't faded so it's not a symbol for me to use. Shrug,
plenty of other symbols available. |
